| This Jukurrpa (Dreaming) comes from Mina Mina, country sacred to Napangardi and Napanangka women, far to the west of Yuendumu. In the Dreaming, women danced at Mina Mina and digging sticks rose up out of the ground. The women collected these up and travelled on, dancing and creating many places. The sinuous lines in this work represent ngalyipi (snake vine), a rope-like creeper used as a ceremonial wrap. The circles are jintiparnta (an edible truffle) which the women gathered for sustenance on their long journey, which eventually took them far to the east and beyond the boundaries of Warlpiri country. The ngalyipi vine grows up the trunks and branches of the Kurrkara (desert oak, Allocasuarina decaisneanal) tress. Ngalyipi is a scared vine to Napangardi and Napanangka women and it has many uses, It can be used as a strap to carry parrajas (wooden bowls) that are laden with bush tucker, as a ceremonial wrap and as a tourniquet for headaches.
