| In this painting Anna Petyarre illustrates multi-layered elements associated with her country. The finely dotted curvilinear design relates to country and its geographical formations – sandhills and a waterhole – and to the importance these have to her ancestral stories, including their origins in the creation mythology of this area.
In the tradition of ancient sand drawings, Anna has painted an area view of her country. For indigenous people, a locality plus the spirits that reside there are included in what they call Country. This image, therefore, represents more than just a map to the artist; it is also about the spirit of that country.
