In a new body of work entitled Coming Home, Elzbieta Krawecka paints the large open spaces of Ontario and British Columbia. Through her transient images of wide skies and cloudscapes, she seeks to conjure feelings of hope and freedom, familiarity and safety, and offer a sense of strength and stability. As she puts it, “The paintings address the capacity for human strength and resilience through the act of creation”.
As a child, the Polish-born artist moved from Krakow with her family to Kuwait, where her parents worked as architects for nine years. Krawecka attended Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) between 1989-1994, and participated in OCAD’s Off-Campus Program in Florence, Italy (1992-1993). Her distinctions include an artist residency at the Pouch Cove Foundation, April 2004, and first prize at the Ontario Society for Artists Juried Show, Toronto, 2003. Coming Home is Elzbieta Krawecka’s first solo show with Diane Farris Gallery.
