| 150 x 150 cm. Oil on canvas. / Self taught painter and sculptor, Marcie O’Neill’s work reflects the internal battle of nature versus culture and the human desire to master mortality. This body of work speaks from the soul. Heartbreaking betrayal, religious rites of passage, are tainted by unspeakable human cruelty and masculine aggression. A journey from innocence to a fractured, fragile sense of self. The abused becomes selfabusive, frustrated by an inability to escape the cycle. Spiritual and creative transcendence is a key element in this work, with religious and iconographic metaphors emerging to depict the escape from human vulnerability. Marcie lives in Manly with his wife Gina and daughter Lily and has worked for the Australian surfboard brand Aloha Surfboard since 1990.
