Aakriti Art Gallery is one of the most vibrantly active venues of art in Kolkata,India.Its exhibits range from works of artists who are groundbreaking contemporary visionaries, young upcoming talents or historical masters. Founded in 2005, the Gallery has today more than 1000 works in its collection which are put on display by rotation. Its new wing adjoining the primary gallery space, now has a permanent gallery for showcasing sculptures exclusively.
One of the core activities of Aakriti, which is pursued at tandem with its regular programme, is promotion of young and upcoming talents. Providing them a platform to launch their artistic careers, stock their works and even buy the work outright that shows promise and creative uniqueness motivates us as much as exhibiting for famous personalities from the art world.

Transcending Popular: A solo exhibition of paintings by P. R. Narvekar at Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata.

The paintings of the eminent artist from Mumbai P. R. Narvekar, will be exhibited at Aakriti Art Gallery. His long struggle to build up a form containing his own identity, exemplify how assimilation of tradition with universal values can find an aesthetic resurrection and uplift the local to the level of global. At a certain level of his career he could realize that apart from creating narratives and describing the here and now reality a major function of the artist lies in creating an essential form that quintessentially grows from the inner consciousness and subconscious of the artist, which is a concentrated darkness containing the subtle light of the prolonged past of the humanity. Epitomizing New Generation Art




Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata celebrates its annual exhibition ‘GenNext’ that has by now become the icon of endorsing young generation artists and has created a revolution in the art world. ‘GenNext’ is a global event which brings in young generation artists from every corner of the world to execute their creative endeavour on a common platform. It was five years back in the month of October when Aakriti Art Gallery was incepted and since then every year on the first day of this month, GenNext is celebrated. This year, it’s the fifth anniversary of the GenNext. And thus GenNext V is reaching out to raise its curtain with another exuberant bunch of young creative talents and give a new boost to this entire discourse that communicates the saga of the generation to mark the path for tomorrow.

“Time’s Whirlwind”
Art Of Satish Gujral.

Satish Gujral never fails to surprise. Even at 84 and after a career spanning close to six decades, the genius of Gujral is never at rest, creating continuously, as it responds to his ‘inner voice’.

And a taste of his genius will be nearer to the art connoisseurs of Kolkata soon. The exhibition titled “Time’s Whirlwind” will be on from November 12 to December 5 at Aakriti Art Gallery, Hungerford Street, Kolkata (12-7pm, except Sunday). What is of further importance is the fact that Gujral's Solo Exhibition will be held in Kolkata after a decade—giving the art connoisseurs and aficionados of the city a chance to soak in the magic of Gujral after a very long time. A 500 limited edition hardbound Collector’s book and a monograph would the released on the occasion.

Both the painting as well as the sculpture wings of the gallery will host the master, covering the whole range of drawings, paintings, sculptures as well as his trademark burnt-wood creations. 20 Paintings, 8 Drawings, 4 Burntwood and 21 Bronze Sculptures will be on display. If you are an aspiring contemporary artist, under 40 years of age, and wish to participate in the next show, you may send a CD containing your recent works along with your detailed profile/ resume, marking the envelop to GenNext VI and sending it to the address below within 31 March, 2011.


GenNext hosted by Aakriti Art Gallery is the platform for the young contemporary artist. Here, painters, sculptors, photographers, print makers,new media,video art etc. are encouraged to put up their works, showcase their skills and their ability to negotiate complex modern issues through their medium of choice.
GenNext is a show to appreciate the creative sparks of the young generation artists, who will eventually inspire contemporary art to influence creative endeavours in the global arena.

CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMME WITH SWEDEN




Indian art show in Volvo country

The carnival at Gothenburg, Sweden's second largest city after Stockholm, between August 10 and 15 this year will coincide with a large exhibition of contemporary Indian art. The show will continue till September 15.

In 1927, Volvo Cars was founded in Gothenburg, which has a spectacular boulevard known as the Avenue. This 1.6-mile road, where the Gothenburg Museum of Art, the city's theatre, the city library as well as the concert hall are located, is the scene of the annual carnival. It attracts about one million people from all over Europe. The Indian art exhibition will also be held on the road.

Titled Go India, it is the fruit of a cultural exchange programme between Emami Chisel Art and Aakriti Art Gallery, Calcutta, on the Indian side, and Vasa Konsthal and Gallery Scandinavia in Gothenburg along with Aschan & Co on the Swedish side.
