Art Upstairs is a contemporary art gallery in the heart of Wexford town, Ireland.
The gallery is owned and managed by Denis Collins who has over 28 years experience curating, organising, designing and touring exhibitions in the public and private sphere.
We present exhibitions by Wexford, Irish and international artists - some of whom are well known in Wexford and others who are being seen in Wexford for the first time.

Michael McGuire

"Land and Sea" - an exhibition of paintings by Michael McGuire
15th to 31st October, 2010, at Art Upstairs  Gallery at 89 North Main St., Wexford
Official opening on Thursday 14th October at 8.00pm 

“Land and Sea” is Michael McGuire’s second solo exhibition and demonstrates his increasing devotion to working on location. With the exception of a few larger studio paintings, the entire collection, comprising over thirty paintings, has been painted on location or “en plein air“. The ever-changing Irish climate makes this difficult, but Michael is convinced that for any landscape artist trying to convey a sense of “visual reality”, there is no other way. The resulting paintings are imbued with a very strong sense of realistic light and atmosphere, and immediately connect with viewers who love the Irish landscape. While the selection of images in this brochure can be viewed simply as very good representational work, closer study of the paintings reveals more complexity, particularly in the variation of textures and edges. Our Rosslare Gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays, 11.00am to 5.00pm.


Location And Getting There

Art Upstairs is located at 89 North Main Street Wexford, Ireland. Once you are in Wexford you will easily find The Bullring with its statue of a “pikeman”; from here head along North Main Street (1 minute walk if you go slowly!) until you get to Shaws. We are directly opposite - upstairs between Oxfam & Mackin Travel.

Our Rosslare Gallery is on Strand Road in the heart of the village - just keep your eyes open and you can not miss us!
