688 Gallery is pleased to present the works of Rachel Moseley and Todd Yoder, two artists who both focus on a very specific slice of American life in the 1940’s. Through her narrative series “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys”, Moseley explores her father’s childhood growing up in Texas in the 40’s. Touching on themes of war, segregation and the search for the “American dream”, Moseley’s oil illustrations have a nostalgic undertone as she aims to bridge the gap between her imagination and her father’s narrated family history. Yoder’s traditional oil paintings present various scenes depicting a hobo musician’s life on the rails. With the use of a sepia color palette and immense detail, Yoder reveals moments of camaraderie, joy and uncertainty through his characters.
