MINI TALES Alexander Zakharov's comeback to Hong Kong
opening April 11, 2013,6pm
exhibition runs until early May 2013
Mini Tales consists of Zakharovâs latest large mixed media pieces and miniature paintings of animal figures and nature scenery with playful subjects that require viewers to further investigate the works to discover what Zakharov intends to show. These works are often misrepresented as âsmall worksâ. Contrarily, the detail and minutiae do matter. It literally demands the viewers to take a step closer to truly grasp the full implications of his works. Zakharov let go of everything that is âgrown upâ, that bothers and nags him in real life. He travels to this reality, where good defeats bad, where life has a meaning, and cynicism does not have the last word; where we are never lonely and nobody can hurt us. These little characters open the artist to new beginnings, and however bad it is, itâs still all good, even though often sad. |

OLGA TOBRELUTS: âNEO-CLASSYâ
DEC 21, 2012 - FEB 20, 2013
https://www.facebook.com/events/494829793894534/
AP Contemporary is delighted to present Olga Tobreluts`s first solo show in Hong Kong. Neo-Classy features 11 paintings and photo prints by Olga Tobreluts. She is best known for infusing digital technology to her work while maintaining the classical aura and aesthetics ---a completely new reality that transcends the historical context and is much more in synch with the modern time. Tobrelutsâ works are bold manipulations of historical facts and contemporary myths, amalgamated in a magical super-reality. Whether or not Olgaâs ornamental myths have any basis in classical mythology, they always reference the present day and age. By juxtaposing the classical and the modern, Tobrelutsâ art underscores the fact that history is the cradle of mythology and the furnace in which artistic ideas are forged. This exhibition hence challenges and questions our knowledge and definition of the âclassicâ and âmodernâ.
