Artist’s Statement
"Havana Above & Beyond"

As an artist who grew up in Havana I find myself deeply influenced by the two enduring and powerful legacies of Cuba; it’s music and architecture. My work is especially influenced by the jazz that one hears in the streets amid the decaying, ancient houses. The history that these walls have witnessed comes alive for me just by looking at them.
 
The idea of displaying my art so high above a modern, fresh city such as Vancouver is a lofty contrast to my home town. I am thrilled to bring borders closer in this modest tribute to the beauty of a
grand old dame: Havana.
