Baumgartner Gallery

Manfred Baumgartner Opened his first contemporary art gallery to the public in 1979. After dealing for a decade as a private dealer he opened his first art gallery in Washington DC on Dupont Circle. There he have one person exhibitions to legendary artist such as Ida Applebroog, Richard Artschwager, Ross Bleckner, Louise Bourgeois, Saint Clair Cemin, Jiri Dokoupil, Tara Donovan, Eric Fischl, Peter Halley, Mary Heilman, Jene Highstein, Christian Hornsleth, Byron Kim, Yotoi Kusama, Jonathan Lasker, Fabian Marcaccio, Ingo Meller, Wes Mills, Joan Mitchell, Malcolm Morley, Bruce Nauman, Thomas Nozkowski, David Reed, Pat Steir, Andres Serrano and Tony Tasset. The Baumgartner Gallery moved in 1999 from Washington DC to New York City. Where it was one of the first Contemporary galleries to have a space in the Meat Market District on 15th Street. It openend with Brazilian artist Fernand Gomes. In 2004, found an appropriate space in Chelsea at 522 West 24th Street, the new gallery was designed by architect Craig Shillitto from Weeve Projects.
