TRAVELLERS IN TIME
CONTACT feature exhibit
Lluis Barbas
May 2011
For CONTACT 2011, Lausberg Contemporary will feature the artwork of prominent Spanish contemporary photographer Lluís Barba. Barbas’ work is particularly exciting, as it serves to connect people, both living and dead that may never have had such a chance meeting in settings that also acknowledge, sometimes ironically, but always respectfully, the contributions of the great masters of the past.
In his artist statement for CONTACT 2011, Lluís Barba’s Travelers in Time work “reflects a critical and social view that contrasts with the visual language of expression as employed by the creators of certain masterpieces.” Barba’s intention is to “make a subjective revision of art of the past and create an interaction between historical characters and contemporary personalities.”

WINTER THAW
30 artist Canadian & International inaugural group exhibition
Feb 1 - April 24th, 2011
The inaugural Lausberg Contemporary Toronto exhibition of WINTER THAW features 30 artists – all of our Canadian and many international artists firmly rooted in the LC program, from new and emerged talent to investment level senior artists, many pioneers in their field – such as Joseph Drapell and Klaus Staudt.
Sculpture features strongly in WINTER THAW with works from Rafael Barrios, who did his undergraduate degree at OCAD. Additionally, of note, the new colour coated sculptural works of Toronto favourite Sophie DeFrancesca and Germany's Hans Schuele & Herbert Mehler. These works are suitable for out - or indoors.
Important conceptual painters, staple at Lausberg, not to be missed are:
Michael Burges, Marie Lannoo and Robert Schaberl. |

Besides Art Toronto, LC artists have achieved greater global visibility and reputation
through participating in various international art fairs with Lausberg: Art Frankfurt, Art Cologne, Art Karlsruhe, Art Zurich, Art Moscow, Art Korea, Art Miami, Palm Beach3, Art Santa Fe, Art Chicago and the LA Art Show. The realization of larger scale installations in the galleries, fair and various off-site settings has helped strengthen the awareness of LC artists' commitment to realising larger-scale public art. In Toronto, most recent public art projects with LC artists short-listed: Liberty Village restoration, McMurtry Ministry of Justice, Concord City Place and off-site events like Nuit Blanche, upART and several exhibitions annually at the SPOKE CLUB. |
