MEDUSA ART GALLERY

The Medusa Art Gallery was established in 1979 by Maria Demetriades. The Gallery hosts environments, performances, video, photography and exhibitions of painting and sculpture.
From the outset, the majority of the gallery’s associates were young artists in parallel with internationally acclaimed names such as Takis, Mario Prassinos, Harold Stevenson, Robert Matta and Alexis Akrithakis.
The Medusa Art Gallery has hosted the first solo exhibitions of Nakis Tastsioglou, Anton, Yorgos Rorris, Marianna Strapatsaki, Maria Grigoriadi, Eleni Zouni, Lina Bebi, Panayotis Linardakis, Babis Venetopoulos and others.
In recent years the gallery has been focusing on Greek artists and makes efforts to promote them beyond the Greek borders, through collaborations with art galleries abroad or with the organizers of major international shows.

"EPIFANTA"

8 March - 21 April 2012

On Thursday, March 8 at 8.00 in the evening Maria Demetriades opens the exhibition of the latest work of Maria Vlandi.

The artist presents a series of large-scale clay sculptures. Almost all works are two metres high and rise vertically in space to form an environment. Their black, ochre and white surfaces carry shapes, lines and script, sometimes faint and sometimes pronounced.

With this body of work under the general title "Epifanta", Maria Vlandi embarks on a quest along which she moulds, develops, discovers and devises the unique quality of a plastic art "in the making" which eventually culminates into a monolithic formation. Although abstract in nature, this formation still point the viewer to recognisable, familiar worlds.

Maria Vlandi studied painting at the Fine Arts Academy in Rome and ceramics at the Athens School of Fine Arts. She has presented her work in five solo exhibitions. She has received the first award in five national competitions in Athens, and silver medals in the international competitions of Faenza, Italy and Gualdo Tadino, Italy. One of her ... [ Read all ]

The Thinker The Touch

26 January - 3 March 2012

On Thursday, January 26 at 8.00 in the evening Maria Demetriades opens the exhibition The Thinker; The Touch with the latest work of Eleni Zouni.

Six years ago the painter embarked on a research project with drawings-references to paintings from the past, where the momentary Touch seems to be the code for interpreting the image.
She uses various materials to paint and convey into contemporary reality the notion of Touch and Engagement with what surrounds us; with what is taking place now. Her works are identical circular journeys of situations and emotions through Time.

Eleni Zouni studied graphic design at the Vakalo School and painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts, under D Kokkinidis. Between 1984 and 1994 she lived in Barcelona and Amsterdam. In 2009 she received a postgraduate degree in Graphic Design & Visual Communication from Derby University –Vakalo College of Art and Design.
