MOGADISHNI started in 2000 as non-profit space, presenting an experimental line of contemporary art projects from Denmark and abroad. In 2001 the space was commercialized, but maintaining its profile as a venue for contemporary art that emphasizes a social as much as an aesthetic context for contemporary art.
In 2003 MOGADISHNI was relocated in a former factory building in the industrial area of Valby, Copenhagen. This unconventional relocation inspired other galleries, and today Valby is the most significant contemporary art area in Copenhagen.
In 2006 MOGADISHNI expanded, and MOGADISHNI AAR (Aarhus) was opened. This division strengthened the gallery’s concept in several ways. Most importantly, it has made possible an increased degree of internationality, since the number of exposition increased.
Artists represented by the gallery have been displayed at biennials, museums and galleries around the world, and works by the artists are represented in collections in Denmark and world-wide.
