Gallery History

Jochen Meyer and Thomas Riegger opened the gallery in 1997 with the exhibition “AND THEN THERE WERE NONE”, showing pieces from the Marzona collection. The collection embodies a juxtaposition of European and American art, similar to the gallery program that ensued.
The exhibition perceived itself as a reference to a certain era, and simultaneously was a benchmark for the following exhibition program, in which we have tried to use the political and aesthetic potential of those positions as a link to the present. In doing so, the focus is on conceptual positions that emphasize the emancipatory potential of art, that underline the capacity of the existent to become transcendent, while being aware that artwork, as a product of labour within society also reflects society’s condition of dependency.
The contraposition of international artists from different generations, in single and selected group shows put this interest into practice.
