Millesgården

Millesgården was the Milles couple's home and studios during the 1910's and 20's. It was opened to the public in the late 1930's.

The nicely balanced stage design of terraces, fountains, stairways, sculptures, loggias and columns forms a unique yet playful hybrid between Mediterranean and Nordic style. Coupled with a diversity of vegetation and an immense seaside vista Millesgården can be termed a work of art in its own right.

The Art gallery was built in 1999 and has ever since been exhibiting works of early modern masters paired with the latest works by contemporary Swedish and international artists.

Ann Edholm and Håkan Rehnberg,
March 24 - May 20
- painting & sculptor

Painting has always stood in focus for Ann Edholm, to be driven a certain direction, where symbolism and physical expression almost short-circuit. Håkan Rehnberg's works move between painting and special objects, where concepts susch as place and happening are central.
Understanding, conception, the experience itself occurs through the physical meeting with work. Ann Edholm and Håkan Rehnberg further a tradition in wich scale is extremely important. The art works are intellectual models, they are physical objects in space. All dimensions measure scale onte to one.

Edholm and Rehnberg share similar backgrounds, educated at the Royal Art Academy in Stockholm, where they have also taught. They are both represented in the same public and private art colletions. To step into Ann Edholm's studio with Håkan Rehnberg or vice versa is not self-evident, but at the same time there is a curiosity that ignores boundaries and liberates older suppositions.

Auguste Rodin & Carl Milles
- a meeting of masters

May 26 - August 26 2007

During the summer of 2007 Millesgården will exhibit works by Carl Milles (1875-1955) and Auguste Rodin (1840-1917). They are now two of the most world-renowned sculptors, whose paths crossed for the first time when Carl Milles lived in Paris at the end of the 19 th century. The then young and unknown Carl Milles was invited to assist in Rodin's studio, wich later developed into a lifelong friendship. Carl Milles held the master's work in great admiration and was inspired by his home and studio as well. The artist's home at Millesgården with its sculpture park an collection of antiquities are further examples of how Carl Milles inherited inspiration from Auguste Rodin.

Public transport:
Subway to Ropsten and then bus to Torsvik (one stop) or The Lidingö Train to Baggeby (two stops).

From Torsvik and Baggeby there is only a short walk to Millesgården(approx. 300 m). Follow the signs.

There are also a possibility to take directbus 207 to Millesgården. Departure times from Ropsten at 09.52 am, 10.52 am, 11.52 am and 12.52 pm.

Free parking on Herserudsvägen 32.
