Mount Shasta, Calif. —
A fine art exhibit at the Red Door Gallery in Mount Shasta will feature oil paintings, an archival pigment print, and a native stone sculpture by artist Finley Fryer of Dunsmuir.
All are invited to an opening reception Friday, Aug. 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. Food and refreshment will be offered.
Fryer forged his artistic voice in the early 1970s during the height of the funk movement in the Bay Area. He had his first major show in 1979 at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in NYC.
He eventually gained international recognition for his monumental sculptures installed at Burning Man – among them The Plastic Chapel, Coalita, The Portal, and Stan, an 18-foot multi-media sculpture now housed at Radiostar Studios in Weed.
Fryer's signature style combines obsessive painterly detail with a light-hearted sense of humor.
The Red Door Gallery is located at 326 N. Mt. Shasta Blvd. The show runs until Oct. 16.
