Springhill Institute is a project by artists Karin Kihlberg & Reuben Henry, created as a strategy to bring artists together in constructive discourse and for the production of new work.
It began in Birmingham in 2003 with a series of lectures in which artists were free to talk on any subject except art, and exhibitions such as Time & Breakfast, which opened at 6am with free fried breakfast instead of alcohol, subverting the art world norm and creating an altered platform for social interaction.
From 2004-2006 Springhill Institute hosted seven production residencies for international artists, each making an ambitious project in an intensive two-week process.
