The Prizewinners Show
Ben Rivers & Thomas Chaffe
Fri 9th March- Sat 14th April
Following Surface Gallery’s Open Show 2006, two people
were voted for by public and Gallery staff to win a commission
of £500 to make and present new work for the Gallery.
From sixteen artists from across the country, local visual artist
Tomas Chaffe and Ben Rivers, a film maker from Brighton
were selected for the award. Surface Gallery is now very pleased
to welcome back the two young talented artists to present Props,
an architectural installation from Chaffe and The Coming Race,
a new piece of film work from Rivers.

Rules of the Game
Various Artists
Thurs 19th April – Sat 19th May
Surface Gallery has teamed up again with the Fine Art course
at Nottingham Trent University to produce a series of exhibitions
and events presenting work by Trent students and staff at BA,
MA level and Phd level.
The show last year, Drawing Straws was a huge success bringing
in large audiences to the gallery over a four week period
of four separate week long exhibitions. This year we have made
the challenge even tougher programming five exhibitions over a five
week period.
Proposals for exhibitions have been devised in response to the title
‘Rules of the Game’ and explore themes of the connection between art
and play. Both art and play seep into places where they are not invited;
they have the potential to create havoc and disruption in the most unlikely
of spaces.
