The Changing Room

The Changing Room is Stirling's only dedicated gallery for contemporary art. Since opening its doors in 1997, the gallery has become an integral and important part of the growing network of organisations within Scotland and abroad. It provides a link between artists and audience in the area. Centrally located within the city, the Changing Room is well-placed within Scotland, with easy access from Scotland's other major towns and cities including Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

艺术家代表
The Changing Room shows the best new work by local, national and international contemporary artists. These artists range from the less established to the well known. In a mix of solo and group exhibitions that cover a diverse range of contemporary art practice. Artists that are selected for either solo or group exhibitions are, in most cases, directly invited to exhibit by the gallery. At other times we openly advertise opportunities for exhibitions, and accept proposals from artists and curators.

The Changing Room aims to be a major asset for the local population by developing an extensive education and interpretative programme to encourage the local community to consider in more detail the methodologies involved in making contemporary art.

The Changing Room collaborates with local schools, colleges and community groups to plan a range of education and outreach activities throughout the year. Free interpretive material accompanies all exhibitions and we support critical debate of contemporary art by commissioning essays and publishing catalogues to accompany selcted exhbitions.

Forthcoming exhibitions at The Changing Room in 2007: 10th anniversary programme

Design it Yourself. Programmed to coincide with the international Six Cities Design festival in May-June 2007, this exhibition pursues ideas around art that has been co-opted as design work for the music industry; specifically cross-artform, handmade, lo-fi approaches to design within an era of self-publishing and distribution.

A “pre-modern melancholic” group show curated by Alex Pollard bringing together work by artists that reflect Pollard’s interest in British eccentricity and surrealism; practices that look to pre-modern influences such as the Green Man and pastoralism. Artists include Alex Pollard, Clare Stephenson, Fiona Jardine, Gregor Wright and Edgar Bryan.

Duncan Marquiss solo exhibition including a new 16mm film, drawings, wall painting/mural and live performance, presented as a unified, cohesive body of work in Marquiss’ first solo exhibition in Scotland, and most ambitious project to date.

Is That All There Is?
An exhibition of archive material from the Lindsay Anderson Collection

17 February – 31 March 2007

Is That All There Is? is the first public exhibition of material from the Lindsay Anderson Collection held by University of Stirling. It represents a unique and idiosyncratic overview of the life and career of one of Britain’s greatest filmmakers.

Anderson began his career by making documentary films in the 1950s and was a founder of the ‘Free Cinema' movement. He made a string of critically acclaimed films in the 1960s and 1970s including This Sporting Life, starring Richard Harris and If…. starring Malcolm McDowell. Anderson remains a unique figure in British culture; his attitude to art and life was committed, personal and socially engaged. He made some of the most remarkable films in the history of the British cinema and was one of this country's leading theatre directors. An eloquent and perceptive critic, he edited ‘Sequence’, still widely regarded as one of the most influential film magazines ever published in Britain.

University of Stirling holds the full archive of Anderson's...[ 阅读全部 ]
