âA Story Differently Toldâ Tomasz Ciecierski, Jaroslaw Kozlowski, Zofia Kulik, Aleksandra Polisiewicz, Zbigniew Libera and Darek Foks
6 June â 3 August 2008
âA Story Differently Toldâ is a project disclosing threads of modern art practices, polemic to the vision of art history known from institutionalised discourse and spaces. It is not about a radical objection or any ideological antagonisms, rather it aims at more reserved but all the same mischievous strategies of verifying the canons encouraged by institutional authority.
Reading of art happening now, but also as perceived from the time passed perspective. The exhibiting artists, show different versions of history, they re-tell their relation to the past, they read themselves differently to the way they are usually read. The presented artworks bring from the shadow, what could not fit into the institutionalised norms, grew on margins, and in any way, beyond the absorbed and absorbing mainstream events.
Their narrations favour an individual memory against codified record of the institutionalised history of art. They provide a slightly different reading of modern... [ Read all ] |

INKUBATOR Joanna Biela Garrido Invisible Life
8 August -21 September
Joanna Biela Garrido graduated from Sculpture Department at Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. She exhibited her works in Wroclaw and Lodz, and as a participant of group exhibitions in Sweden (Biennale Luela), Ireland (Dublin), Austria and Czech Republic. She creates installations, objects, art books; she does projects in public spaces. At present she lives and works in Lodz.
The starting point for project "Invisible Lives" was the experience of living in a big city. An individual is anonymous, the face disappears, fades in the crowd of similar ones. "Man of agglomeration" is invisible. Does it mean that his live is unimportant? What about Warhol's 15 minutes of fame, the privilege of a modern man?
This question was the base for the photo project of Joanna Bieli Garrido. The pictures of the artist are portraits of random people, in everyday life, in the street, passing by. What are the photos taken in Lodz, Crakow, London, Tokyo, Kyoto saying about the subject of the photograph? In her project the artist draws the viewer into a certain game. She distorts the sc... âZdzisĆaw Pidek. We rememberâ
11 April â 25 May 2008
ZdzisĆaw Pidek, who had passed away two years ago, was a sculptor and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in GdaĆsk. He is an author of minor and monumental sculptures, objects and installations. His oeuvreâs important part are commemorative monuments in places involved in contemporary Polish history, like the one dedicated to memory of the victims of Katyn massacre. Pidekâs works differ from what is supposed to be a traditional commemorative monument. They avoid heavy, overpowering form in favour of an open situation, an atmosphere where the emotions of the viewer are in the centre of attention. His monuments do not overwhelm the surrounding nature. It is often the case that they include the rite of passage, a symbolic way covered by the visitor.
The arrangement of the exhibition âWe rememberâ is based on the artistâs original idea of distribution of his works in the space of ĆaĆșnia. The exhibition rooms will house a rendition of the monument of BeĆĆŒec according to artistâs intentions. The object will be complemented with a photographic documentati... [ Read all ] |
