JIMMY O’NEAL COMMISIONED BY COBB ENERGY PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE
Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center has commissioned Bill Lowe Gallery artist Jimmy O’Neal to create a monumental work of art as a permanent installation for its new facility. The Centre is the largest cultural or performance arts center built in the Southern United States in the past fifty years and features an auditorium seats that seats almost 3000 people in a state-of-the-art environment. The 28-foot-wide work, with the signature Jimmy O’Neal reflective surface is tentatively titled, The Nine Muses. The artist was inspired by Greek mythology as ancient Greece was the birthplace of theatre. He chose the imagery of the Nine Muses as a representation of the multi-faceted spectrum of theatre. The piece symbolically creates a stage for the viewer to become an integral participant through his reflection, animating the image while passing through the Nine Muses.
