Current Exhibitions - Wexler Gallery
March 5 – May 1, 2010
Wexler Gallery proudly presents two March / April 2010 exhibitions, which will coincide with the 44th annual National Council for Education on the Ceramic Arts Conference in Philadelphia (March 31-April 3, 2010).
In the main space, the gallery will feature “The Peaceable Queendom,” an installation of new work by Philadelphia based sculptor Adelaide Paul. The exhibition will include life-sized interpretations of animate beings such as mountain lions, dogs, and horses- all made from both found and fabricated materials including altered taxidermy manikins, hand stitched brightly colored leather, and hand built ceramic elements.
On the second floor, the gallery will host “The Hermaphrodites: Living in Two Worlds,” a group show curated by Leslie Ferrin, owner of Ferrin Gallery, Pittsfield, MA. Focusing on figural sculpture that both embodies the literal definition of hermaphrodites (encompassing both genders) and the conceptual nature of the term as it applies to sculpture that can be categorized equally as fine art sculpture or decorative art, the exhibition will concentrate on contemporary artists working with ceramics who also adopt other techniques commonly found outside of their discipline. Featured artists will include Chris Antemann, Christie Brown, Jason Briggs, Beth Cavener Stichter, Cynthia Consentino, Anne Drew Potter, Judy Fox, Gerit Grimm, Bridget Harper, Sergei Isupov, Myungjin Kim, Dana Major Kanovitz, Matt Nolen, Kelly Garrett Rathbone, Dirk Staschke, Tip Toland, Jason Walker, Kurt Weiser, Red Weldon Sandlin, and Irina Zaytceva.
