Another Look
Paintings and Works on Paper by West Fraser
November 7 through November 28, 2008

Charleston, SC –Textures, form, light, color and their subtleties are the focus of nationally renowned American artist West Fraser’s plein-air work. In November, for the first time in his 30 years of award-winning paintings, Fraser will be offering drawings in his next one-man show, Another Look. Also on view are oil paintings and watercolors, a medium Fraser is revisiting after 15 years. Helena Fox Fine Art at 12 Queen Street in historic Charleston presents this special exhibition of paintings and rarely seen works on paper.
From California to Maine, Fraser depicts the opposite coasts of America and their particular characteristics. He also revisits old haunts from his native Southern coast, looking for fresh perspectives for the evocative imagery for which he is so well known. Never one to impose his expectations on a place, Fraser lets the place communicate to him, especially reflected in this body of work. “I try to find more,” Fraser says. “As a naturalistic painter, I am going deeper than before to capture a moment in time in these places.”
