Lesya Kara-kotsya

Lesya Kara-Kotsya is a Ukrainian artist, who is known to have invented a new style in contemporary fine art, called karakoko (the name is derived from her family name Kara0Kotsya). She has also created new fairy-tale creatures Khobotarkas, depicted in Lesya Kara-Kotsya's book "Khobotarkas adventures. Resquing the Spring Sun". The book will appear in September 2008 (in Ukrainian language). Soon it's going to be translated into English. Three solo exhibition were devoted to Khobotarkas' adventures, travels and chronicles.

About the Artist

More about Khobotarkas: "Albinos of the spotty khobotarka is a fairy tale creature that symbolizes Ukrainian everyday life and exotics at the same time (a piglet mixed with an elephant). Big, kind, beautiful and a little bit sad eyes symbolize wisdom of the Ukrainian nation. Their merry, witty and playful character reminds us that all of us were children and we shouldn't forget it in middle and advanced age. I got actually sick and tired of watching agressive transformers and stupid pokemons on TV that were created without any hint at taste. If our children grow up and study side by side with such characters, we risk to get the generation of agressive fools. Children are future of the country, and we must care for them. And khobotarka is my present to all kids and adults who haven't forgotten the happy feeling under the name "to be a child". (Lesya Kara-Kotsya)

Inside the book all illustrations are graphical. Lesya decided to make them black and white, so that the book is less expensive and all children can afford to buy it.

This is the cover of the future book. Lesya has been working on the book for 2 years. And now it's finally being published.

2007

There are about 100 illustrations in the book. They are not only to tell the contents of the book, but also to decorate it (scrolls, monograms, folios and others). This is one of the corners.

2006-2007

The book tells a story about khobotarkas, living in the Wonderful Forest. A famous khobotarks' architect Herman Mysha constructed the highest antenna in the world. One day the beautiful Spring Sun stuck on the antenna with a ray, and everything stopped...
