Very nice Lara, the only one I felt like seeing closer as I scrolled through them...

A great idea, but needs to be pushed. Perhaps if there is a colour or font difference between title and author? I think it would jwork depending on how its marketed.

Not for me - although I like the idea - I am still looking for the covers to have that X factor - they must shout at me - this one only whispers....

dull and boring.

I love it. Sometimes simple is the perfect answer. Ignore the idiotic and nasty comments. How sad that people have nothing better to do than criticise. Good luck!

sloppy.

posted by: hugh thomas | 01/05/2008

I like it Lara, the simplicity. Could have had a blot of colour perhaps, but then it would not have been as different. It leaves enough to the imagination (not too explicit like some)

posted by: marika | 01/05/2008

It is striking - but does it contribute?

posted by: Sherry Joubert | 01/05/2008

Stunningly simple; Simply subtle.

This is so beautiful! I want to live on the boat, It's beautiful! P.S. dear Amy and Jane Doe, If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. Oxo Oxo.

Wondering what Sean Dixon himself thinks about the quality of 20 books shortlist... This book was published last year in Canada under the title: The Girls Who Saw Everything ( Coach House Books) basing a lot to The Epic of Gilgamesh. Also: Lacuna: means ' empty space' or missing part in a manuscript etc, it might not mean same as Lagoon.

Neutral feeling.

Too much subtilety and simplicity can pass unnoticed.Your cover a very good start for something more. This something more didnt come...Just my opinion though.Good luck!

Boring.

posted by: Jane Doe | 30/04/2008

Very clever idea. Would need some good finishes to brighten it up though, as it's a bit dull in colour. Maybe different colour type?

posted by: anon | 30/04/2008

It is necessary time for the judges to retire!! How to choose these 20 book covers. Other participants were much better, certainly this competition is big one joke!

clear and different. Very good job

posted by: pavlina | 20/03/2008

Wonderful! The simplicity of this piece makes it all the more mysterious and intriguing, just what is this book cover hiding? I certainly want to find out.

posted by: Julia Turner | 18/03/2008

Excellent. You have teamed interest and mystery with simplicity and creativity to produce an alluring piece of work. It is, as one might say, 'effortfully effortless'.
