Permanent Collection Highlights :: Aberdeen University Zoology Museum

The Bengal tiger Panthera tigris

Photo Description:

Our mounted Bengal tiger was seized by HM Customs and Excise at Aberdeen Airport in 1996. Probably a zoo animal, it had been mounted in NE Scotland and was being exported to the Middle East but without the necessary permit. Tigers are fully protected under CITES and cannot be traded without proper authorisation.

MUSEUM ATTENDANCE FIGURES

The Art Newspaper has published its international survey of 2010 museum attendance figures, and our three exhibitions last year have been ranked as the second, third and fourth most visited in London, surpassed only by Van Gogh at the Royal Academy of Arts. This follows on from The Art Newspaper's 2009 ranking in which the Saatchi Gallery presented the top two most visited exhibitions in London.
