March 19 - April 17, 2011
Opening Saturday, March 19. 6-8pm
performances by Tamar Ettun and Dan Herschlein
Other Life Forms, a group exhibition of New York based and international artists, organized by Kate Scherer and Andres Bedoya, opens Saturday, March 19 at the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center in New York. The exhibition brings together work that describes a particular intersection of sculpture and performance. Our daily motions find expression in our bodies, so that we literally perform whatever rote, whatever fantastic accumulates there. The exhibition reflects attitudes mediated by the body, its representations and behaviors.
Based in performance and sculpture yet spanning video, photography and installation, the works in this show probe the material evidence of amplified experience, representing loud and fragile efforts to pulse a signal, transport a touch.
Coinciding with the exhibition will be video and performance events on Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 17.
The WAH Center is housed in a New York landmark, formerly Kings County Savings Bank built in 1867, and provides a unique venue for artists to present their work.
