Permanent Collection - Kunstmuseum Bonn
The Kunstmuseum Bonn plays a significant role in Germany's museum setting. On the one hand it has been noted in the past for its trailblazing special exhibitions and, on the other, it captivates the eye with its excellent permanent collection set in an illustrious frame, i.e., the new museum built by Axel Schultes and completed in 1992. Within approx. 4000 square meters, a multi-layered collection is presented that has been assembled over five decades and possesses its own unmistakable character. For, whereas other museums have collected broadly and encyclopedically, the Kunstmuseum Bonn has for a long time concentrated on acquiring works from the field of German art. Only here in Bonn, therefore, is it possible to experience German art, especially post-1945, in such density and quality, providing the art-interested public with a veritable overview of its evolution.
