Kunstverein München

The Art Association of Munich goes back to the beginning of the 19th century and is one of the oldest Kunstverein in Germany.

Being in a not always easy relationship with the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, founded some years earlier, the Association gained - after 160 years of a somewhat academic existence - the much more inclusive approach with the accent on "international big city art, young art from Munich, cooperation with the Academy and exhibitions of photography". The exhibitions listed below under 'previous exhibitions' paint clearly the picture of a straight forward modernist course taken by the Kunstverein ever since.
