| The Museum Of Modern Art - New York
Founded in 1929 as an educational institution, The Museum of Modern Art is dedicated to being the foremost museum of modern art in the world. The rich and varied collection constitutes one of the most comprehensive and panoramic views into modern art. From an initial gift of eight prints and one drawing, The Museum of Modern Art's collection has grown to include over 150,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, architectural models and drawings, and design objects. MoMA also owns approximately 22,000 films and four million film stills, and MoMA's Library and Archives, the premier research facilities of their kind in the world, hold over 300,000 books, artist books, and periodicals, and extensive individual files on more than 70,000 artists. The Museum Archives contains primary source material related to the history of MoMA and modern and contemporary art.

From an initial gift of eight prints and one drawing, The Museum of Modern Art's collection has grown to include 150,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, architectural models and drawings, and design objects. MoMA also owns some 22,000 films, videos, and media works, as well as film stills, scripts, posters and historical documents. The Museum's Library contains 300,000 books, artist books, and periodicals, and the Museum Archives holds approximately 2,500 linear feet of historical documentation and a photographic archive of tens of thousands of photographs, including installation views of exhibitions and images of the Museum's building and grounds.

Parking
The Museum does not have a parking garage. However, MoMA visitors and members receive discounted parking at the nearby 1345 Garage. Parking stubs must be validated at the Lobby Information Desk or Film Desk in the Museum Lobby. Parking is first come, first served.

Visitor Policies
Checkroom
All bags are subject to security inspection before entering the Museum. The Museum requires visitors to check backpacks of any size, shopping bags, and bags 11 x 14 inches (28 x 35.5 cm) or larger. To avoid a lengthy wait in the checkroom line, visitors should not bring such items. The checkroom will not accept laptops or luggage of any size.
Mobility Access
All galleries and facilities are wheelchair accessible. Wheelchairs are available in the checkroom free of charge.
Cameras
Still photography for personal use is permitted in collection galleries only. No flash or tripods allowed. Videotaping is permitted in the lobby only. No photographs or videotapes may be reproduced, distributed, or sold without permission from the Museum.
Sketching
Sketching is permitted in the galleries (pencil only, no ink or paint) with sketchbooks no larger than 8 1/2 x 11 inches (21.6 x 27.9 cm). No easels, stools, or sketching while sitting on the floor is permitted. If galleries are crowded, guards may ask visitors to stop sketching or writing.

MoMA's Education Department creates programs and materials to foster an engagement with modern and contemporary art for an ever-evolving public. Our mission is to provide visitors with rewarding opportunities for learning in the hope that they will gain a valuable insight into MoMA�s collection and the historical and cultural contexts in which these works of art are made.

The Museum of Modern Art welcomes groups, extending its exhibition and educational resources through the Group Services office.
Group visits are available at reduced rates for a minimum of ten and a maximum of fifty people.

Guided Tours
Lecturers are available to guide groups of up to twenty-five people. Museum highlights tours, and lectures on special exhibitions and in foreign languages may be scheduled for one hour. A highlights tour includes an introduction to the building and highlights from the collection. A highlights tour can also focus on specific galleries, mediums, or collection areas. The Museum of Modern Art is about to complete the largest building project in its history. Designed by Yoshio Taniguchi, the galleries reopened to the public in midtown Manhattan in November 2004, in celebration of MoMA's seventy-fifth anniversary. The 630,000-square-foot Museum is nearly twice the size of the former facility, offering dramatically expanded and redesigned spaces for exhibitions, public programming, educational outreach, and scholarly research. Upon its completion in November 2006, The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building will mark the culmination of the Taniguchi project, providing significantly increased space for MoMA's wide-ranging educational and research activities.
