| Real Academia De Bellas Artes De San Fernando
On 13th July 1744 King Felipe V approved the establishment of a Spanish Royal Academy of Fine Arts, similar in nature to like institutions in other countries. The opening ceremony of the Academy was held on 13th June 1752.
The present-day Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando was officially inaugurated in 1986 in its current headquarters, the University Complutense de Madrid’s Faculty of Fine Arts, joining with the school to enter into a more modern phase in its historical development. The museum was thus able to exhibit works of art acquired and treasured throughout its history over three floors and 59 exhibition rooms. Here all branches of the Fine Arts are represented in a collection made up of work by artists formed in the Academy as well as donations received and acquisitions made by the Academy throughout its 200-year history.

Permanent Collection Highlights (13)

The permanent collection includes master works from Spanish, Italian and Flemish art. Goya was a member from 1780 and the Museum holds 13 of his paintings including the two Self-Portraits and the celebrated carnival scene known as Entierro de la Sardina. Other collection highlights include Zurbarán’s Agnus Dei, a Ribero María Magdalena from 1636, the only Acrimboldo held in Spain, Rubens’ Old testament scene Susana y los Viejos and Van Loo’s Venus, Mercurio y Amor from 1748.
The 20th century collection gives us a glimpse into modern artistic movements and includes works by Sorolla and Cecilio Plá representing impressionism, the portraits of Vázquez Díaz and the landscapes of Benjamín Palencia and Lozano.
The museum also holds an important collection of sculpture with works dating from the 17th century to the present. Exceptional pieces from this collection include Manuel Pereira’s San Bruno, Pedro de Mena’s La Dolorosa, José Ginés’ Degollación de los Inocentes, Picasso’s Cabeza de Mujer and Pablo Gargallo’s Academia.

FRANCISCO DE GOYA. "JUEGOS DE NIÑOS" SERIES
Over the next four years
This is the only one of the known series’ to be conserved intact.
The six paintings that make up the “Juegos de Niños” series was painted by Goya between 1776 and 1785. The artist, an astute observer of the world of children and the way in which they create their own games using imagination and creativity, gives them a central space in these works. The constant sensation of movement of the figures, their spontaneity and naturalness is present in these compositions, which can be grouped into three categories according to the type of activity represented: Niños jugando a soldados and Niños jugando a toros, or how children imitate adult activities; Niños jugando a pídola and Niños jugando al balancín, or how they have fun, fight and imitate adult social roles; and Niños buscando nidos and Niños peleándose por castañas, or how children are naughty when away from parents and teachers.

General entry: 3.00 €
Reduced entry: 1.50 € upon proof of identification
(young person’s card, student card, groups of 15 to 25 people linked to cultural or educational establishments, members of employers’ organisations or other government bodies of public museums).
Free entry (upon proof of identification): university students, teachers, under 18s, over 65s or pensioners, unemployed people registered with INEM, public museum staff or members of national or international museum associations (ANABAD, ICOM, AECA, AICA…), members of professional associations of the visual arts, national tourist guides, journalists exercising their profession.
Entry is free to all members of the public: every Wednesday (except public holidays), 18th May (International Museums Day), 12th October (National Holiday) and 6 December (Day of the Constitution).

There is no cafeteria inside the Museum. However, there are several within a 50m radius of the building and the entry ticket is valid for those who wish to leave and re-enter the museum until 15 minutes before closing time.
Museum publications, postcards, slides, posters and T-shirts can be bought from the ticket office.

All group visits, with or without a guide, must be reserved in writing, by fax (+34 915 241 034) or email (museo.visitas@rabasf.org) at least 10 days previous to the visit. The following information must be provided:

Date and exact time of visit
Number of visitors
Request for visit with or without guide
Group visits will not be allowed on days when there is free entry to the museum (see above). Maximum number if visitors per group are 25 people (Museum visits) and 20 people (Temporary Exhibitions visits). There is a minimum time difference between each group of 30 minutes (Museum visits) and 45 minutes (Temporary Exhibitions visits). Teachers or group guides should not give more than 30 minutes’ explanation per room, thus avoiding several groups blocking the rooms.
GROUP VISITS WITH VOLUNTARY GUIDE
The Museum offers schools and associations free guided visits with a group of museum volunteers who do their work on an altruistic basis and have been specifically trained to do it.

The museum of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando invites you to enjoy its permanent collection, one of the best collections of painting, drawing, sculpture and engravings in Spain.
For private visits to see the collection when the museum is closed to the general public the following information should be sent:
Date and time of visit
Number of visitors
Required use of services (guides, languages)
Collection itineraries
Possibility of ending the visit with cocktails on the Patio de Esculturas
Possible gift to guests of an Academy publication
These details will be used to give a budget for the visit.
