Untitled 'Profile' from the installation 'Thirty Six Shades of Red'

Year Created:2011
Medium:Photographic transparency
Image Dimensions:10 x 8 inches

Description:Transparencies from the series 'Profiles' are created by selecting identification numbers from the Iraq Body Count database, expressing them as hexadecimal colour values and then printing the resulting blend of red, green and blue onto 10"x8" sheet film. Each identification number generates a unique colour, while the person's name, age, occupation and cause of death are contained within the JPEG filename, printed along the film’s rebate. Due to an idiosyncrasy in the encoding process, the colour mix remains dominated by red. For the installation 'Thirty Six Shades of Red', the individual sheets of film were installed onto the windowpanes of a large neo-classical façade, with each transparency representing a civilian casualty.
