THE 2011 NEW SENSATIONS EXHIBITION

Welcome to the Saatchi Gallery and Channel 4's New Sensations Prize. We had a record number of entries this year (over 600) and were thrilled with the standard of work submitted by students graduating from universities and colleges across the UK and Republic of Ireland. The judges chose 20 graduates to show their work in an exhibition in London during Frieze Week in October 2011. Out of this shortlist of 20, the judges also selected four outstanding young artists who were given a bursary to make a new work to present at the exhibition. Each of the four finalists also had a short Channel 4 film made about them which were aired in October.

The winner of this year's New Sensations Prize, chosen by the judges, is Jonny Briggs, who graduated with an MA from the Royal College of Art, London. A Special Commendation prize was awarded to Gabriella Boyd, who completed her BA at the Glasgow School of Art.

The New Sensations Prize was launched in 2007 to find and support the most imaginative and talented artists graduating in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Since it was started five years ago the Prize has given young graduates many opportunities - they have sold their work, been taken on by galleries, invited to be in exhibitions both in the UK and internationally and shortlisted for other prizes as a result of their work being seen in the New Sensations exhibition. The prize is open to all art students who are graduating from a BA or MA course at an art school or a fine art/photography department of a UK or Republic of Ireland university or college.
