Aleksandra WojcikBorn in Poland. Lives in: London Middlesex University
From a young age I have had an interest in theatre, painting and drawing, which developed, as I got
older into an interest in photography. In my photographic work I make use of skills I’ve learnt through drawing and painting such as observation, perfection of technique and the ability to submit to what I see. I also feel influenced by the acting experience and many times my photography becomes a performative act. I’m interested in themes borrowed from literature and fine art landscape, portrait, nudes but related to the time we live and I always try to leave room for the viewer to make their own interpretations. It is important for me to ‘experience’ my photography. I often work alone, accompanied by different emotions, fear, joy or desire. I treat photography as a language, a game, as a dialogue, like meditation and as an adventure.
In my work I am interested in linking art to everyday situations and documentary. I focus on the atmosphere of my subjects and I also become a subject of my photographs myself. My projects always have the subjective and personal approach to them and I never give the final answer, I want my viewer to read my work through his/her own experience. I believe that even the most personal work can share the universal qualities as the global starts from the individual.

Work of art I would like to makeIf I was chosen I would like to visit my home and spend more time with my mother.
I would like to document her battle with Parkinson disease.
My mum worked as an art restorer and that is how she became ill.
Her nervous system became damaged by the chemicals which she had to use at work.
She took care of the old paintings and sculptures and had preserved them for the next generation.
My project would be based on the personal relation with my mum, emotional and subjective.
I would like to dedicate her my talent, my love and my time...everything what she dedicated to her work. |
