Caitlin GeorgeBorn in United Kingdom. Lives in: Cardiff University of Wales, Newport
The work of Caitlin George is derived from her interest in the way that control is exerted over the consumer through various methods that act on our subconscious. Her most recent work ‘Seduction intended’ is a series of photographs that questions the intentions behind the lighting of commercial space, focusing on the seductive and highly designed lighting schemes that illuminate the walkways that serve to guide, influence or control our movements. We are invited to reconsider these environments and the subtle techniques used to heighten our engagement with the venue and encourage us to use the centre for its intended purpose.

Work of art I would like to makeThe intended effect of my work is to raise an awareness within the consumer of the seduction and to make them conscious of the control being exerted over them. It is an attempt to defy the intended effects of the control methods. I intend to create work that continues drawing our attention to these schemes, that are designed with specific intent, in a way that makes the viewer re-evaluate the space, creating a consciousness of the control that is exerted over the consumer. |
