Stephen KernaghanBorn in United Kingdom. Lives in: Edinburgh Edinburgh College of Art
I create landscapes of my past holiday photos. Pushing different places together as if my memory was skewed. Looking back in time and events can seem merged. There can be an uncertainty about it even being reality. Memories are a twisted perception.
In my paintings new worlds are created, that can almost be believable. But leaving something that may not sit right with the viewer.
I look to explore the relationships between the urban cityscapes and the natural landscapes. Creating places that can be escapism but also comment on 21st century problems such as over population and rising sea levels.

Work of art I would like to makeI would create a large painting. A peice where I would create a large landscape that looks familiar. A place where the city and the rural landscape collide. Where my memories collide into a living breathing space. Extremes meet to create a world where it would seem harsh to live in. But in my painting I want to show it as a tranquil scape. An oversight view with very little human shown. Just showing the scars that humans have created on the land.
The sea meets the skyscrapers, the deserts push through frozen cities. Where there are reflections in the sky. |
