I work primarily by focusing on the relationship between the artwork and its situation as well as the manipulation of the viewer by the artwork. This has led to an interest in curation and site-specificity. Working in a range of media including painting, drawing and sculpture, I examine the exploration and the depiction of constructed space, reducing content where possible, via a play with colour, line and form. Whilst the conceptual element of the work is extremely important, a firm hold on the physical aspects of production is emphasised.

Work of art I would like to makeThe exploration and the depiction of constructed space is an ongoing task. Using materials and processes connected to the construction industry, the art objects bond ideas closely with the materials’ qualities.
For ‘New Sensations’, I propose to explore and expand upon part one of an ongoing project, ‘One Thousand Paintings’, which seeks out the purity of line and colour, creating imagery in an array of geometric designs. Each small, hand-painted wooden block informs the next, building a systematised, yet spontaneous, approach. Ordered chronologically the piece depicts formalized space within a unified size, uniting, whilst highlighting the distinctiveness of each piece. Part one of ‘One Thousand Paintings’ currently stands at 420 paintings displayed across six boards which each measure 115 x 80.5 centimetres (w x h). The act of production informs the display, highlighting the uniqueness of each individually painted design which currently spans across 6.9 x 0.80.5 metres (w x h) in part one alone.
This opportunity would allow me to develop artistically, while building upon part one to develop and complete the next stage part two of the pre-existing project.
