Yakir EliaBorn in United Kingdom. Lives in: London Central St Martins College of Art
I was born and raised in London to parents of North African, Jewish descent. I have recently completed my degree in fine art, specialising in sculpture.
My work has always contained an element of tension and stress, be it performance sculpture or painting. I have more recently turned to sculpture with a performative aspect involved in the making, and even more recently turned to making large scale installations. Using the heavy weight of my work to place tension on other materials.

Work of art I would like to makeI would most likely create an installation that follows up on my degree show, the show piece consisted of three railway sleepers stood up right with equal spacing between them with a fourth sleeper leaning towards them at an angle, held up by a steel cable attached to the ceiling in a "domino" effect.
I would possibly explore with these large masses further, perhaps integrating my work into its surroundings. I have thought about suspending the sleepers and using the leverage to create the pressure I may need, this would be no simple task as they weigh in at about 120KG each, i would also consider cutting them to reveal a cross section that would look brand new in comparison to the scruffy and old exterior. |
