This is an oil painting on canvas of my brother Antonio, since my chosen project theme is 'Portrature'. I was first inspired by Maggi Hambling's work; as she has taken on the theme of 'Portraits'. Her style tends towards the expressionistic, as she uses bold and sharp colours to accentuate certain features of the face. The composition of the portraits are also taken into consideration. I took images of my brother, whilst taking the composition into consideration. I then chose the best angle of his face, and painted it with oil paints onto an A2 canvas. I have used more realistic colours for the face, without using Maggi's dark blues, browns and blacks. I wanted to keep it fresh and eye-catching; hence why I left the background white. |
