Growth and Decay

Growth and Decay
Photo Description:
‘Growth and Decay’ By Palin Ansusinha, from Queen Anne’s School, Caversham. AS Level Materials: Acrylic, canvas, newspaper I was particularly intrigued by the physical decay of the environment in urban areas. The weathering of paint on the walls not only reveals continuous layers of different, but the contrast in textures and colours aligned side by side is visually stimulating. In addition to these elements in the environment, I was inspired by Gerhard Richter’s technique of dragging paint across a surface, which could be adapted to represent the texture of wood. My final piece for this coursework unit, therefore, is a representational relief painting that enhances the physical decay of a painted wall through the different mediums used for each layers.
