‘A Veiled Perception’ By Hannah Marshall
Queen Anne’s School
AS Level
I am particularly in the human face, as it allows for the exploitation of interesting ambiguities. I was therefore spurred to produce a series of analytical depictions of the human face. Exploring the concept of veiled perceptions was primary focal point, as I became particularly engaged by the superficial judgments and assumptions one makes when meeting an individual initially. Striving to capture the specific moment when one constructs this false perception, based simply on external appearance. Moving away from the limited method of replicating what I saw in photos proved liberating and allowed me to incorporate more surreal colours in order to heighten prominent features on subjects face. After visiting his recent exhibition, I gained an appreciation for Lucian Freud’s understanding and analytical approach to portraiture.
