Spray paint on Board
This piece grew out of my observations of the way passers-by respond to homeless people in Oxford. People rarely acknowledged their presence as though they were just part of the streetscape. I used graffiti art to try and convey this, making the homeless people part of the streetscape by stencilling their images onto wall-like surfaces. In doing this, I am hoping the viewer recognizes homelessness as an issue and question why they choose not to acknowledge the presence of the homeless. The images of a picturesque natural landscape are hung upon the wall as a contrast to the main image, giving the impression of it being a home, a personal space that is being invaded by the viewer rather than the person being ignored. |
