My chalk interpretation of Vincent Lamar Carter, a professional NBA basketball player, reflects my inspiration drawn from the 2012 London Summer Olympics, again, coinciding with a new found love for NBA and International basketball. I wanted to depict the dynamism and the marvel of a world-class basketball player in action. I wanted to convey the feelings of inspiration I felt when enjoying the Olympics to try and replicate the feelings involved with Carter at the the time of this 'Slam Dunk'. Carter represented the USA in the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics, winning a gold medal. He quickly emerged as a league star, entertaining crowds with his leaping ability and 'Slam Dunks', earning him nicknames such as; "Vinsanity", "Air Canada" and "Half-Human, Half-Amazing", which consequently inspired the title for this piece.

Some Background information:
An 8 time NBA All-Star, Carter joined NBA players Julius Erving and Michael Jordan as the only players to lead the NBA All-Star Game fan voting 3 or more times. Carter scored his 20,000th point in 2011, becoming the 37th player in league history to do so. |
