My painting is of Westminster Bridge and the Clock tower, I did this study from my own primary source of photos I took of this monumental place. I was primarily inspired by the work of John Virtue and how he uses his strong and rough brush strokes to create different types of mood and feelings. His expressive way of working inspired me to do something similar but with my own twist of adding a variety of colours and blending so that I can pull of the effect of making it very misty and gloomy. To achieve this I made the buildings such as the Clock Tower noticeable by hints of light the strong brush strokes over it so it has that very foggy effect. The clearest part of this painting is the river, I done this by using many different shades of blue and a variety of brush strokes to give it that wavy effect that water tends to have, however I added highlights using other colours such as red and yellow to show a vague reflection of the buildings that are in fact more clear on the water that the actual buildings behind the mist. I did this to demonstrate how misty it actually is and can be in London. |
