Following my project that sees me illustrating my dreams from my written dream journal, I have produced a coloured ink painting of 5 combined dreams that share the same apocalyptic theme. Initially influenced by the surrealist styles of Salvador Dali and Jarrod Eastman, I later researched and discovered the brilliant elusive works of surrealist artist Leonora Carrington. I favoured her unique dark painting style as it physicalised the emotion my apocalyptic dreams gave me. Thinking about composition I decided to take the most significant characters, objects and symbols in each dream and arrange them to tell a narrative tale. As a side study I have been researching and considering different theories of dream interpretation from the founding fathers of psychology, Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud for possible explanation of what my night-time visions could mean. My often hectic dreams make no sense to me, and by visually expressing these dreams I can begin to peer into the meaning and emotion, showing myself my state of mind. |
