Inspired by Dryden Goodwin's video art, 'Closer', I became rapidly interested in unspoken relationships with strangers on my journeys. My investigation relied on my observational sketches of fellow commuters I encountered on my trip to college, taking a deep interest of the details that make up the characters, making that person no longer a stranger to me. By using acrylic paint and oil bars, I created this 8 piece project; 'Stiff Upper Lip, 1-8'. Through showing the motion, I captured an essence of the moment I was in when building the character, the unspoken relationship, of the person. I wanted to challenge the British social norm of not taking interest or being involved in other people on our journeys.
