Combinations and Alliances

Combinations and Alliances
Photo Description:
My final piece for Fine Art ‘Combinations and Alliances’ is quite complicated. It relates to the political and economic situation in my country, Poland, but mainly, how it affects the people. In this project I focused on two sides of the system: aggressors and victims. Politicians and citizens and the link between them, which I realised is manipulation. We are all manipulated, I suppose, even though some of us are politically aware. Still, even those people are stopped from being free and content because of series of absurd rights and bureaucracy. Going towards my final outcome, I figured out that it is better to focus on the victims, if I want to present this problem. The conception becomes stronger. Inspired by artists such as Shirin Neshat, Raul Hausmann, Banksy and Kassovitz, I came up with 5 canvases, a mirror blindfold and a movie. Five canvases present five facial sections of my friends on which I engraved with the laser cutter the lyrics of polish anracho-punk band. I have to poetic talent. The lyrics influenced me very much, so I hope they will work in the same way on the audience – make them think and take their life in their hands. Instead of passively accepting the fact that it is in somebody else’s at the moment. The blindfold – oxymoron works like a filter of view. We can look through the cut out text spreading liberal ideas. However, it is still a blindfold – an instrument of manipulation making us blind. Finally, the movie is a sort of public performance. I asked my friend to walk the streets and estates with the eyes covered, whereas two of my other mates were pulling the strings attached to her hand. At the end, she happens to see the people who control her and resists them. That final bit of my final piece is supposed to give the audience hope that we can become free. My work relates to the exam topic as firstly, it shows the alliances between politics and victims in the system – manipulation. I just developed it. Secondly, I feel that technically I combined a lot of techniques and works together that made a new piece. Therefore it relates to combinations, aswell. I did not mean to only inspire my countrymen, even though I made this project in relation to Poland, just like Mathieu Kassovitz made his movie in relation to his country. This does not only happen in Poland or France. Whole world is dependant and manipulated by the ones who create the system. Be aware.
