This piece is created from direct observation from a jar containing a dissected rat and a skinned rabbits head in liquid.
I produced this mixed media piece after being inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's anatomical drawings. I am fascinated with the way in which he dissected corpses, exploring the internal structure of the body and the layer upon layer of entrails, tendons, flesh and fur. I have explored the physical qualities and contrasting textures of the rat using different media. There is a contradiction between the unsettling subject matter and the beauty of the piece.
