Study of my Dad

Study of my Dad
Photo Description:
Study of my Dad (Watercolour)(Unit 2 final outcome): I started this painting with the intension of conveying a strong sense of structure in my portraiture in a way I had not done before. The idea of creating a portrait only from blocks of colour, which resemble a collage, seemed an exciting and interesting way of showing the three- dimensional shape of the face at the same time as showing tone and experimenting with slightly unusual colours, such as purples, oranges and greys, for the skin. The easily recognisable depiction of my Dad through the use of an unrealistic patchwork of shapes and colours, is an interesting, almost paradoxical quality that came out of this piece of work. For me and my Dad, this painting is particularly engaging because of how he feels it reveals his "aging and grumpy demeanour".
