Living in Cornwall was a very special place to be in 2012 with the Olympic Torch arriving at Lands End at the start of its journey across England. Many pupils from Cape Cornwall school got up early to witness Ben Ainsley and Tassie Swallow running with the torch. This was a great experience, and a life time opportunity. Tegan wanted to capture the excitement and the thrill of the Olympics’ in a ‘ jigsaw’ of paintings – the torch starting its journey from her home county symbolized in the Cornish mine, map of England –conveying her countries heritage and an Olympian runner ( her face a mask - playing a part surrounded by the cheering crowd and thrill of the moment)The figure is influenced by African masks and Umberto Boccioni. |
